The practice of meditation is offered to students attending the School of Philosophy as an integrated part of the course. A simple mantra-based meditation practice is used. For those attending a regular class, the meditation is supported by an experienced group tutor, there is also the opportunity of attending day long meditation workshops and weekend meditation retreats.
For those no longer attending a regular class, but who have an interest in maintaining the meditation practice — or restarting the practice — a new meditation group has been formed that meets once per term (12 weeks). As well as providing ongoing support for the meditation practice, it provides the opportunity to reconnect with others who have an ongoing interest in Meditation and who all follow the same system of Meditation. The group is open to all students who have been introduced to the practice of mantra meditation through the School of Philosophy.
The meditation group sessions consist of periods of meditation practice, study, questions and discussion. Sessions are light and informal and place an emphasis on reconnecting with the essence and simplicity of the meditation practice. The sessions are conducted by members from the school who have a great love for and deep interest in the practice of meditation.
The School of Philosophy has always stated that a lifelong support for the meditation practice is available to all students — past and present. This initiative is about making this more accessible.
